"How did I end up with a son like you, eh? You're nothing like me. You never were, and you never will be."
— Big Daddy, upon learning his son's passion for singing
INFO

Big Daddy is an antagonist and the father of Johnny, and the mobster leader of a gang of robbers in Sing. He wants for his son to follow in his criminal footsteps and his overbearing character makes it hard for Johnny to argue. He also owns a garage that he uses as a living space and a hideout.

He is voiced by Peter Serafinowicz.

Appearance

Big Daddy is an anthropomorphic gorilla. It is seen that he has a very large physique (hence the nickname "Big Daddy"). He is wearing a blue jumpsuit and a white shirt under it. When performing a robbery, he (and his helpers) wear a white rabbit mask.

Personality

Big Daddy seems to have a rough and strict attitude towards Johnny at first. He wants his son to follow in his footsteps and be an organized criminal, but scolds him when he wants to be singer instead. After a botched robbery due to Johnny failing to have the getaway vehicle ready, he goes to prison and later shuns his son when he visits him. However, he became very proud of him after seeing his son's performance of "I'm Still Standing" on a prison television. Desperate to see him in person again, he breaks out of jail and evades police pursuit long enough to briefly see and appreciate him backstage during Mike's performance of "My Way" before leaving to turn himself in.

Biography

Big Daddy, along with the rest of his gang, are introduced conducting a bank robbery. While evading the police, he berates Johnny for failing to keep a lookout and not wearing his mask. Much later, Big Daddy ropes Johnny into being the getaway driver for a large heist of $25 million in gold. However, the time of heist conflicts with a rehearsal, and Johnny fails to return to his designated position, resulting in the gang's arrest.

In prison, Big Daddy finally learns about Johnny's desire to be a singer, and disowns him. However, he hears Johnny's performance of "I'm Still Standing", and is so pleased that he orchestrates a jailbreak to apologize and say how proud his is of him.

Trivia

  • The getaway truck he uses after robberies resembles a 1953–1956 Ford F-Series Pickup. As he escaped prison to see his son, his pulling of the window bars matched the rhythm of Johnny's performance of "I'm Still Standing".
  • Big Daddy's real name according to some publicity materials is "Marcus". However, it's not entirely confirmed to be official.
  • The scene where Big Daddy makes his escape is reminiscent of the scene in Kingsman: The Secret Service; where Eggsy (Taron Egerton) tries to escape his stepfather's thugs by jumping from roof to roof.
