"Dream On" is a power ballad by Aerosmith from their 1973 debut album of the same name[3]. Written by lead singer Steven Tyler, a shortened version of the song was released as a single on June 27, 1973; it peaked at No. 59 on the US Billboard Hot 100 but received heavy radio play in the band's native Boston. In late 1975, "Dream On" was re-issued as a single with its full album length. It debuted at No. 89 on the Hot 100, but steadily climbed the charts, ultimately peaking at No. 6. Label Columbia Records chose to service Top 40 radio stations with both album and single versions of the song. "Dream On" was used in conjunction with the Eminem track "Sing for the Moment" (which sampled the former song) in trailers for Sing.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Every time that I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face getting clearer
The past is gone, it went by like dusk to dawn
Isn't that the way, everybody's got the dues in life to pay, yeah
[Interlude]
I know nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody sins
You got to lose to know how to win
[Verse 2]
Half my life's in books' written pages
Lived and learned from fools and from sages
You know it's true
All the things come back to you
[Chorus]
Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing with me, it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away
[Instrumental Break]
[Chorus]
Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing with me, it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away
[Bridge]
Dream on, dream on, dream on
Dream until your dreams come true
Dream on, dream on, dream on
Dream until your dream come true
Dream on, dream on
Dream on, dream on
Dream on, dream on
Dream on
Aaaaah!
[Chorus]
Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing with me, it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away
[Chorus]
Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tear
Sing with me, it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away
