Eleanor Louise Greenwich (October 23, 1940-August 26, 2009) was an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. Early in her career, Greenwich's biggest successes were co-written with Tony Powers, such as "He's Got The Power", "(Today I Met) The Boy I'm Gonna Marry", and "Why Do Lovers Break Each Others' Hearts?". Demos of the latter two songs were introduced to Phil Spector, who would co-write and produce the final singles, and become a frequent collaborator with Greenwich. Her relationship with Powers ended upon her marriage to fellow musician Jeff Barry. Together, the two and Spector co-wrote a large volume of hits such as "Da Doo Ron Ron", "Be My Baby", "Then He Kissed Me", "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)", "Chapel of Love", and "River Deep – Mountain High". "Do Wah Diddy Diddy". Greenwich and Barry also co-wrote several hit singles without Spector, such as "Hanky Panky" and "Leader of the Pack" (the latter also co-written by George "Shadow" Morton).
