"Happy Birthday to You" (also known simply as "Happy Birthday") is a song traditionally used to celebrate the anniversary of a person's birth. The song's base lyrics have been translated into at least 18 different languages. "Happy Birthday to You's" origins date back to at least the late 19th century, when kindergarten principal Patty Hill and her sister, pianist and composer Mildred J. Hill, composed a song that young children would find easy to sing. Patty introduced the song "Good Morning to You" to her class in Louisville, Kentucky.

In 1893, the sisters published the tune in their songbook Song Stories for the Kindergarten. It is unknown when the the lyrics of "Good Morning to All" changed to "Happy Birthday", but it is theorized that the shift began when teachers adapted the song to celebrate birthdays in the classroom. The first book to include "Happy Birthday to You" lyrics explicitly set to "Good Morning to You" is 1911's The Elementary Worker and His Work.

In Sing, Meena and her family sing the song while celebrating her grandfather's birthday. Meena's grandfather was particularly impressed with how she sang it, and claimed that if he had a voice like her, he would be a superstar.

Lyrics

Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday dear [Birthday Person's Name]
Happy Birthday to you

How old are you now?
How old are you now?
How old are you [Birthday Person's Name]?
How old are you now?

I'm [birthday person's age] years old
I'm [birthday person's age] years old
Because its my birthday
I'm [birthday person's age] years old
