Shawn Corey Carter (born December 14, 1969), known professionally as Jay-Z (Alternatively stylized as JAY-Z, Jaÿ-Z, Jay Z, and Jay:Z throughout his career[2][3]), is an American rapper, songwriter, producer, entrepreneur, and record executive[4][5]. He is regarded as one of the greatest rappers[6] and most significant cultural icons of all time, and has been a global figure in popular culture for over two decades[7][8][9]. Born in New York City, Jay-Z began his music career with the founding of record label Roc-A-Fella Records in 1995, which he used to release his debut studio album, 1996's Unreasonable Doubt[10]. Jay-Z has gone on to release twelve additional albums, all of which attained generally positive critical reception and commercial success; 2001's The Blueprint and 2003's The Black Album were later heralded as modern classics[11][12]. He has also released collaborative anthems Watch the Throne (2011) and Everything Is Love (2018) with Kanye West and wife Beyoncé, respectively.
