"Roar" is a song by American singer Katy Perry for her fourth studio album, 2013's Prism. It was released as the lead single from the album on August 10, 2013. Perry co-wrote "Roar" with singer-songwriter Bonnie McKee and its producers Dr. Luke, Max Martin, and Cirkut. The song received mixed reviews, but was nominated for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. "Roar" was a commercial success, topping charts in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Austria, Canada, Ireland, Israel, Lebanon, New Zealand, Scotland, Slovenia, and South Korea. It sold 6 million copies in the US and was became Perry's second Diamond certified single after "Firework". "Roar" also sold over 1 million copies in the UK and 560,000 in Australia, becoming the country's best selling single of 2013. According to the IFPI, "Roar" sold 9.9 units worldwide by the end of 2013. In Sing For The Gold, a promotional TV spot for Sing, an unnamed hippo and turtle sang "Roar" while driving in their car.
