Samuel Frederick Smith (born May 19, 1992) is an English singer and songwriter who rose to fame after providing vocals on "Latch" (2012), the breakout single of British electronic duo Disclosure. The second single Smith was featured on (Naughty Boy's "La La La") became a number one hit in May 2013. In 2014, they won both the Brit Critics' Choice Award and the BBC's Sound of 2014 poll[2][3]. Smith released their debut album, In the Lonely Hour, in May 2014 on Capitol Records UK[4]; its lead single, "Lay Me Down", was released prior to "La La La" and was a modest hit. The album's second single ("Money On My Mind"), however, became Smith's second UK number one hit. The album's third single, "Stay With Me", was an international hit, peaking at No. 1 in the UK and No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100, while fourth single "I'm Not the Only One" reached the top five in both countries. The fifth single, "Like I Can", reached number nine in the UK. In March 2014, Smith made their live American debut on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, followed by a performance on Saturday Night Live. For their and Jimmy Napes' theme for the James Bond film Spectre (2015), "Writing's on the Wall", Smith won both the Golden Globe Award and the Academy Award for Best Original Song. In November 2017, they released their sophomore album, The Thrill of It All, which debuted atop the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200. Its lead single, "Too Good at Goodbyes", peaked at No. 1 in the UK and Australia, as well as No.4 in the US. References
