- — Squids
The squids are minor characters in Sing. They are employees at Les Calmars, and later the Moon Theater, where they work as bioluminescent lights. AppearanceThe squids can change color, but are normally pink and blue. They all wear neckties, and in Happy Holidays From Sing, red socks fringed with white on each tentacle. PersonalityThe squids' personalities aren't heavily detailed in Sing, but they seem to be ready and willing to work for their employer(s). BiographySingThe squids are first seen working at Les Calmars when Buster Moon discusses his plans for the "greatest singing competition in history" with Eddie. Later, Buster returns to the restaurant with Meena in tow, and together the two place "Squid Wanted" advertisements on their tanks. While the waiters are irritated, the squids themselves are curious. Having successfully poached Les Calmars' workers, Buster uses the squid in an elaborate light show for Nana Noodleman's rehearsal. However, the demonstrated is interrupted by the bear trio; having been cheated out of $100,000 by Mike, they angrily demand the prize money in exchange for the mouse's life. When Buster stalls, the bear leader smashes the chest containing the prize with a baseball bat, but the force of the blow cracks the glass stage. The squids blink red in warning before the stage breaks, flooding the the theater. The squids are pushed into the sewers by the force of the escaping water, but all survive. After the New Moon Theater is built, the squids are seen working as lights on the building's exterior. They also appear during the end credits, singing "Faith". Happy Holidays From SingThe squids are employed at an ice rink during winter, where they swim beneath the ice. In addition to watching the Sing cast dance and pose, they form a makeshift light display for Gunter while he dances to his holiday-themed remix of "Groove Is in the Heart". Some squid also form a heart with Rosita's children when she falls onto the ice. Sing on TourPre-Show While Mizuki gives the audience a backstage tour, she encounters Buster talking to the squids in a mobile tank. He explains that while he thinks they're great, he can't afford to have them in the show after the flooding of the old Moon Theater. The cart is wheeled away as the squids dejectedly sigh and turn blue. Sing: ThrillerDressed as vampires, the squids mimic lightning as they illuminate the Moon Theater.
