System of a Down (also referred to as SoaD or just System) are an Armenian-American heavy metal band. Originally formed in Glendale, California in 1994, SoaD consisted of lead vocalist and keyboardist Serj Tankian, guitarist and vocalist Daron Malakian, bassist and backing vocalist Shavo Odadjian, and drummer Andy Khachaturian. In 1997, Khachaturian left the group after sustaining a hand injury and was replaced by John Dolmayan[1]; one year later SoaD released their self-titled debut album. SoaD has released five studio albums to date, three of which successfully topping the US Billboard 200. This includes their sophomore album Toxicity (2001), though its debut single "Chop Suey!" had its commercial success hampered by controversy over its lyrics, causing it to be pulled from US radio. After the release of their last two albums, 2005's Mezmerize and Hypnotise, SoaD went on hiatus. However, they reunited in 2010 and released two singles in 2020. Read more here... References
