"Take Five" is a jazz standard written by Dave Brubeck Quartet alto saxophonist Paul Desmond, and originally recorded by the Quartet for their 1959 album Time Out. Created at Columbia Records' 30th Street Studio on July 01, 1959[1], a shortened version of "Take Five" was released as a single on September 21, 1959. After being reissued on May 22, 1961, "Take Five" became a surprise hit, peaking at No. 25 on the US Billboard Hot 100[2], No. 5 on the Billboard Easy Listening chart[3], and No. 6 on the UK Record Retailer chart[4].

"Take Five" is the best-selling jazz single to date[5][6]. The piece has since been used in numerous movie and television soundtracks. In Sing, Mike plays "Take Five" on his saxophone at the start of his introductory scene.
