Van Halen is an American hard rock band that formed in 1972 in Pasadena, California. Van Halen is known for its spirited live shows[7] and the work of acclaimed lead guitarist Eddie Van Halen[8][9]. In 2007, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the institution crediting them for "restoring hard rock to the forefront of the music scene,"[10].

From 1974 to 1985, Van Halen consisted of Eddie Van Halen, his brother, drummer Alex Van Halen, vocalist David Lee Roth, and bassist Michael Anthony[1]. Upon it's 1978 release,  the band's self-titled debut album reached No. 19 on the Billboard pop music charts. By the early 1980s, Van Halen was one of the most successful rock groups of all time[11]. Their sixth album, 1984 (1984) was their most successful since their debut, while it's lead single, "Jump", is their only song reach No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 to date.
