Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963-February 11, 2012) was an American singer and actress. Nicknamed "The Voice" for her vocals and vocal improvisation skills[1][2], she is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with over 200 million records sold to date[3]. Houston is the only artist to have had seven consecutive singles top the US Billboard Hot 100 (From 1985's "Saving All My Love for You" (1985) to 1988's "Where Do Broken Hearts Go"). She has received numerous awards during her career and posthumously, including two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 16 Billboard Music Awards, and 28 Guinness World Records, as well as induction into the Grammy, Rhythm and Blues Music, and Rock and Roll halls of fame. Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey, Houston began singing as a child in church. In high school she became a background vocalist and teen model, which led to her appearing on the cover of Seventeen in 1981, becoming one of the first black women to do so. At 19 years old, Houston signed to Arista Records with the guidance of its chairman, Clive Davis. Her first two albums, Whitney Houston (1985) and Whitney (1987), both topped the Billboard 200 and are among the best-selling albums of all time. Houston's third studio album, I'm Your Baby Tonight (1990), spawned two singles that topped the Billboard Hot 100: the title track and "All the Man That I Need". The Japanese version of I'm Your Baby Tonight also included a cover of Steve Winwood's "Higher Love". In 2019, Norwegian record producer Kygo released a remix of Houston's cover, which was an international success and appeared in Sing 2. Read more here… References
